The signals that carry real weight

1. Sellability

The single most decisive question is whether the token can be sold at all. A contract can allow buying while blocking or heavily taxing sells — a honeypot. No other metric matters if you cannot exit. 2. Owner permissions

Contracts often keep privileged functions: minting new supply, pausing transfers, changing taxes, blacklisting addresses, or upgrading logic through a proxy. Each is a lever that can change the rules after you buy. Renounced ownership removes many of these levers; retained ones are the mechanism behind most hard rugs. (See What Is a Rug Pull.)

3. Liquidity depth and lock status

Liquidity is what lets a token be traded. Thin liquidity makes both manipulation and a team exit easy; removable liquidity means the pool can simply leave. A locked pool clears one specific risk, but a lock is not a full safety certificate — check who holds the keys and for how long.

4. Holder concentration

If a handful of wallets hold most of the supply, a single decision ends the market. The nuance: pools, burn addresses, and exchange wallets are supposed to be large. The signal that matters is concentration among ordinary wallets after those are excluded.

5. Taxes and transfer rules

Moderate taxes are common; extreme or asymmetric taxes (especially a high sell tax) can trap value even without an outright honeypot. Transfer restrictions — cooldowns, max-wallet limits, per-transaction caps — are worth understanding before you assume you can move freely.

6. Contract verification and code lineage

Verified source lets tools and humans read what the contract does; unverified code hides it. Separately, code that closely matches previously-flagged scam contracts is a meaningful warning — reused malicious templates are common.

From signals to a decision you can trust

The most useful analyzers do three things: they show the evidence, they explain the weighting, and they attach a confidence level that tells you how much data actually supported the result. A high-risk finding on thin evidence and a high-risk finding on strong evidence are not the same claim, and honest tooling makes that difference visible.
